licensing backup UNC path

Hello, I have question about licensing new feature in UDP 6.5. I have backup share folder (on QNAP NAS). In this situation I must buy license? If yes what license?

When I backup share folder from NAS I must buy Arcserve UDP Standard !? I don't understand it. It is simple feature. It should be for free.

Dear Rafal,

as a vendor, Arcserve has responsibilities across its customer base, its partners, and also its employees. We make some functionality available for free - examples are the RPS with its great global deduplication and WAN-optimized replication; the Virtual Standby; or the great BMR even to smaller disks. Non of these carry any extra cost, because all backups are licensed on a source-based model. We allow infinite retention and as many replicas as customers want. But each source carries a simple license. Thanks for understanding.

PS: if any customer has any "per socket" license left, then they can be re-used for UNC Path backups. The same is true for Managed Capacity customers or those with an Appliance. So in a good portion of our customers, the backup administrator can use this new feature of 6.5 without having to purchase anything else on top of what they already have.

Kind Regards, Kai

Did I understand. Example: I have one server with SQL and one NAS (QNAP). I must buy one license UDP Advanced for server and one UDP Standard for NAS. Yes?

Yes, that's the cheapest variant.

Some customers buy all licenses in the same Edition (meaning: 2x Advanced Edition), but Arcserve allows mixing them.
