Error Message:
'Installation cannot Continue because of Communication failure, Fatal Error during Installation.'  Fatal error=1603

Environment:
Product  : Arcserve Backup r17.5

Description:
When installing the Arcserve Backup r17.5 application, the installation fails with an error 'Installation cannot Continue because of Communication failure, Fatal Error during Installation.'



Look at the product install logs which is located at C:\windows\temp, for example CA_5821.tmp\machine_name_1\ folder under that there will be install logs for each of the component that is selected during the installation. In this case edit the arcserve.log in that we will see the following message.

MSI (s) (9C:90) XX:XX:XX:XXX]: Product: CA Arcserve Backup -- Error 1606.Could not access network location \\machine_name1-\Users\Administrator\machine_name_3\.
MSI (s) (9C:90) [14:55:01:033]: Note: 1: 1606 2: \\machine_name_1\Users\Administrator\machine_name_3\ 
Error 1606.Could not access network location \\machine_name_1\Users\Administrator\machine_name_3\.
Error 1606.Could not access network location \\machine_name1\Users\Administrator\machine_name_3\.
Action ended 14:55:01: Cost Finalize. Return value 3.
Action ended 14:55:01: INSTALL. Return value 3.

Note: The user profile path is redirected to a different machine (i.e. Machine_name_1) current user profile path is created on a different machine (Machine_Name_3)

There may be some rare cases where customer configure the default user profile to a different machine instead of pointing on the local machine

In this issue the user profile path is redirected to a remote machine name (Machine_name1) and later the user profile path was changed to Machine_name3 and not updated on the machine were the installation is failing.

Solution

During the installation of Arcserve backup application its updated few data on the c:\users\administrator\path and since this path is not does not exists on the on the machine_name_1 the install fails

On the Arcserve backup server edit the registry key and search for the old machine_name_1 were the user profile data was stored previously and change the path to the current machine_name

Rebooted the machine, then perform the Arcserve backup installation.
