Description:
ESXi server crashes while deploying UDP Agent to a VM  with a PF Exception 14 purple diagnostic screen.



Environment:
ESXi: 5.0.x , 5.1.x , 5.5.x

UDP Console server as well as the nodes for which user tried to deploy the agent are a Virtual Machine running in the same ESXi host with windows 2008 R2 as the OS.

Solution:
-This problem would not be seen when the UDP agent is manually installed inside the Virtual Machine.

-The problem is caused due to a known problem which exists in few version of ESXi, to solve the problem follow the steps listed under Resolution section of below VMware KB:

Resolution

This issue is resolved in:
Note: Ensure to update VMware Tools immediately after updating the ESXi host version.
To work around this issue if you do not want to upgrade, use one of these options:
  • Use the VMXNET3 virtual adapter and reduce the usage of the E1000e series adapter. For more information on adding or modifying a virtual machines virtual network interfaces, see Change the Virtual Network Adapter (NIC) Configuration in the vSphere Web Client section in the vSphere Virtual Machine Administration Guide.
  • In virtual machines that use the E1000e adapter, disable RSS or configure the RSS multiple rx queue to 1 in the guest operating system.
