-Edit the db_configuration.xml file which can be seen under the following path C:\Program Files\CA\Arcserve Unified Data Protection\Management\Configuration\.

-Check for the following line,

-Replace localhost with the Hostname of the SQL Server in db_configuration.xml file.

-Default Path for the db_configuration.xml file:
C:\Program Files\CA\Arcserve Unified Data Protection\Management\Configuration\

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes'?>
<firstStatements>SET DATEFORMAT ymd;SET DATEFORMAT ymd;</firstStatements>
<validateSql>select 1</validateSql>

The reason for this installation failure is, by default the Installation process considers the 'localhost\arcserve_APP' entry in this file as SQL Express and without checking the version of the SQL installed, the installer tries to upgrade the full version of SQL to the Express Edition and it fails.

Once we replace the localhost with the actual host name of the SQL Server, the installer will try to identify the version of the SQL. bypass the SQL upgrade process and proceed with installation.
