arcserve-KB : Alert Manager: Failed to Send SMTP (8000001)

Problem: 

When sending test email to users external to the domain, it fails with the error 'Failed to send SMTP' with error code 8000001.

Solution:

1. Open the registry editor and navigate to the key 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ComputerAssociates\Alert\CurrentVersion\Service\SMTP as shown in the image below and find the DWORD value PortNumber


2. The port number used by the SMTP server should be 25, If the PortNumber has any other value than 25, Please change it as below.



3. Open the Alert manager using Arcserve Manager Console (Quick Start > Administration > Alerts) and restart the Alert alert service.

4. Send a test mail and check the Inbox. There would be an email with the subject line 'This is a test message sent from the Alert Manager'
