arcserve-KB : How to disable Alarm in UDP Appliance Device ?

Last Update: 2016-11-23 11:42:21 UTC
Description:

This article explains the cause for continuous beeps from Arcserve UDP appliance device & how to disable the beep.

Why and what are the possibilities of hearing continuous beep’s from Arcserve UDP appliance device?

The cause of these beeps or alarm is mostly due to drive failure on the device. Resetting the drive usually solves the issue. However, a drive replacement is required in some cases.

There are instances where we have had continuous beeps even after replacing the drives. This does not mean the new drive is faulty as well. The reason for the red light & the beeps might be due to the drive not ready for use and it is being rebuilt.

The alarm continues to be there till the drive is completely rebuilt. This is a default setting in the appliance device. However, this setting can be turned off, if someone choose to.

Please follow the steps to disable the alarm:

1) Open MegaRaid application (StartupUI under MegaRaid Storage Manager in Windows Start menu)

2)Select the server from the list populated as seen in the below image and hit Login

3) Login with local user account with full access selected from the drop down

4) Navigate to Physical Tab as seen below

5) To turn off the alarm:
a) Right click on Controller 0: LSI MegaRAID SAS or click on the Go To menu -> Controller
b) Select Disable Alarm

Alarm can also be silenced using the “Silence Alarm” option as seen below

Alarm can be disabled/silenced from the BIOS Configuration Utility (CU) by following the below steps
  • Enter the BIOS CU by clicking Ctrl+H at boot
  • Select the controller affected by the issue
  • Select “Controller Properties”
  • Click “Next” until locating the “Alarm Control” entry
  • Select “Disable”, “Enable”, or “Silence” from the drop-down menu and click “Submit”
