arcserve-KB : How to safely Restart all the services related to UDP .

Description:

This article explains the steps to safely stop and start all the service related Arcserve UDP which may come handy while troubleshooting various problems related to Arcserve UDP. 

Solution: 

Step 1: Identify the node in which the services needs to be restarted. 

Step 2: Identify the role of the node and understand the impact of restarting the services.
    1. If the node has UDP Console installed, then restating the services might have an impact on tasks like Agent Deployment, Plan Deployment , Replicate from a Remotely Managed .
    2. If the node has UDP RPS server installed, then restating the services might have an impact on all the jobs like backup, restore ,Catalog Generation , RPS Replication, Merge, Virtual Standby , Tape Backups using ARCserve Backup. 
    3. If the node has UDP Agent installed and is being protected using an agent based backup then restarting the services might have an impact on jobs like backup, restore ,Catalog Generation ,  Merge, Virtual Standby , Tape Backups using ARCserve Backup. 
    4. If the node has UDP Agent installed is and configured as the proxy in an Host Based agentless backup plan then restarting the services might have an impact on jobs like backup, restore ,Exchange GRT Catalog Generation, Merge, Virtual Standby , Tape Backups using ARCserve Backup. 

Step 3:
Login to the node in which services need to be restarted . 

Step 4: Launch an Administrative command prompt ( for help please review the steps mentioned in :  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/cc947813(v=ws.10).aspx

Step 5: Change the working directory to Arcserve UDP Agent/Console BIN directory
Note :  
    1. UDP Agent default  BIN directory is (C:\Program Files\CA\arcserve Unified Data Protection\Engine\BIN )
    2. UDP Console default BIN directory is (C:\Program Files\CA\arcserve Unified Data Protection\Management\BIN) 

Step 6: Run the command 'cmdutil /stopall' , this would stop all the services related to Arcserve UDP and additionally would kill all the running process related to Arcserve UDP.  



Step 7: Run the command 'cmdutil /startall'  to start all the services related to Arcserve UDP.

    UDP Agent default BIN directory is (C:\Program Files\Arcserve\Unified Data Protection\Engine\BIN )
    UDP Console default BIN directory is (C:\Program Files\Arcserve\Unified Data Protection\Management\BIN)
