arcserve-KB : How to Stop, Start and reinstall UDP Agentless CBT Driver

When we protect Hyper-V guest VM's using an Host Based Agentless Backup Task , a UDP CBT driver is installed in Microsoft Hyper-V host .This CBT driver would would get attached to each volume where the protected Virtual Machine disk's resides. Once the driver gets attached to a volume it continuously tracks block level changes which would be used to perform an incremental backup job.

While working on various problems related to Host Based Agentless Backup it may be required to Stop , Start and Reinstall UDP Agentless CBT Driver. 

Note : Restarting/Reinstalling the CBT driver would convert the next incremental backup job to a Verify or Full backup depending on the backup destination configured for the Host Based Agentless Backup Task. 

Solution:

How to stop the UDP Agentless CBT Driver:

a.  Login to the Hyper-V Host ( incase of CSV Cluster, we may want to login to all the Hyper-V Hosts part of the CSV ) .
b. Launch an administrative command prompt. 
c. Run the command ' fltmc unload xomfcbt', this would unload the CBT driver 


How to start the UDP Agentless CBT Driver: 

a.  Login to the Hyper-V Host ( incase of CSV Cluster, we may want to login to all the Hyper-V Hosts part of the CSV ) . 
b. Launch an administrative command prompt. 
c. Run the command ' fltmc unload xomfcbt', this would unload the CBT driver 


How to Reinstall the UDP Agentless CBT Driver: 

a.  Login to the Hyper-V Host ( incase of CSV Cluster, we may want to login to all the Hyper-V Hosts part of the CSV ) . 
b. From Programs and Features, uninstall ' arcserve UDP Host-Based VM Backup CBT Service' 


c. Run a backup of any Virtual Machine which would once again install the CBT service and driver.

    The correct command is load
