arcserve-KB : How to reduce number of "LogHistory" folders in Arcserve UDP ?

Last Update: 2017-03-03 12:44:01 UTC

Product: arcserve UDP

Description:

Reduce the no of the LogHistory folder in the UDP Agent\RPS\Proxy LOG directory

Solution:

By default, Arcserve UDP keeps 13 weeks log history which are located in: C:\Program Files\CA\arcserve Unified Data Protection\Engine\Logs.

While this folder is compressed it can still consume a lot of disk space, because of this you can change the default policy to have UDP rotate/purge logs more frequently

We can limit the number of log histories through the below registry tweak:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CA\ARCserve Unified Data Protection\Engine\AFCoreInterface]

'LogHistory'=dword:00000003

 Note:The AFCoreInterface key does'nt exist by default and it has to be created manually.

Important:

  • In current logic, it only moves log to history folder every 1 month. By default keeps 3 “LogHistory” folders, but this can be controlled by this registry value.
  • The minimum value of “LogHistory” is 1.
  • The change to the log history folder will not be affected immediately but only after the weekly purge of the Activity log.
  • This only affects the agent logs in the Engine/Log folder. It does not include logs generated from Java program (web services).

    Yes Jens, Thanks for notifying. We shall add the change in registry.
    In UDP 6.0 and above the Registry is below
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ARCserve Unified Data Protection\Engine\AFCoreInterface
