arcserve-KB : "Undefined Reason" while adding a Linux node using non-root user to D2D Server.

Last Update: 2016-04-25 14:35:12 UTC

Error Message:

The following is the error message displayed  while adding a Linux node using non-root user to CA ARCserve D2D for Linux Server.

'Undefined Reason'

Description:

The above screen explains adding Linux node manually with non-root username 'backup' with root privileges. Even though you have provided the correct user name and password, it gives out the above error message. You can also find the following errors in the jni.debug  from /opt/CA/d2dserver/logs directory.

Java_com_ca_arcserve_linuximaging_webservice_jni_WSJNI_connectNode: connect machine:0.0.0.0  failed! rc=-1
Java_com_ca_arcserve_linuximaging_webservice_jni_WSJNI_connectNode: connect machine:0.0.0.0  failed! rc=7002

Note: If the SSH server disables the root user login, you can enable the non-root user login to add any nodes.

Solution:

Go to the Linux node and check the properties of 'backup' user.  Ensure the 'backup' user has the default login shell as bash.

For example: Login as a root user, run the following command to check 'backup' user properties.

                       #  grep backup  /etc/passwd

                       backup:x:502:2503::/home/backup:/bin/csh

The above command output shows that the backup user has '/bin/csh' as the default login shell.  Change it to bash as the login shell for 'backup' user.

For example: Login as a root user, run the following command to change the shell from 'c'  to 'bash' shell.

                     #  usermod -s /bin/bash backup

                     #  grep backup  /etc/passwd

                     backup:x:502:2503::/home/backup:/bin/bash

More Information:

Seen this behavior in CA ARCserve D2D for Linux R16.5 SP1 Build 2838.1
