arcserve-KB : Backup fails with error message "Couldn't resolve host name". Debug logs have Licensing Errors, although the product is licensed or is in trial period.

Last Update: 2016-11-23 13:16:26 UTC

Backup fails without error messages. Debug logs have Licensing Errors, although the product is licensed or is in trial period.

Description:

From the Activity Log we see that the backups have failed with no error messages.

If we look into the specific job log, i.e. /opt/CA/d2dserver/logs/logs/d2d-job-.log, we would see the below error...

license_func.cpp  FetchUrlData: curl_easy_perform failed:Couldn't resolve host name.

If we enable debug, we would see the below information in the log...

license_func.cpp     CheckLicense: URL: https://localhost.localdomain:8014/WebServiceImpl/CheckLicense?machineName=&isLocal=false&isVM=true&isEncryption=false

Solution:

On the D2D server, try to ping itself using localhost.localdomain, i.e. ping localhost.localdomain

The ping test would fail.

Open up the /etc/hosts file and ensure you have entered a valid entry for localhost.localdomain.

Modify the file appropriately and save the same.

More Information:

You may get the above error message also if the hostname of the D2D Server has changed. If in case you have changed the hostname of the D2D Server and you experience this problem, please follow the below article.
