Title:  How do I configure Replication Delay?

Description:

Replication Delay will replicate changes in real-time (as opposed to Scheduled Replication). As users are making changes to the data on the active server, CA XOsoft continues to replicate the changes to the Replica server in real-time. When Replication Delay is enabled, when the replication files arrive at the Replica server, they are cached sequentially in the CA XOsoft SPOOL directory. The Replication Delay properties allow you to set the length of time the replication files are cached before being applied to the data set on the Replica server. A Replication Delay of 1 hr. would retain the replication files in spool on the Replica for one hour prior to applying the files to the data set. In the case of a corruption event, the scenario can be manually stopped and the data in Spool will be flushed and will not be applied to the data set on the Replica. This will prevent the data set on the replica from being inadvertently corrupted.

Solution:

Configuring Replication Delay in the Scenario Creation Wizard

When you are first creating your CA XOsoft scenario, you can configure Replication Delay in the Scenario Creation Wizard, on the 'Master and Replica Properties' configuration screen.

Figure 1

  1. When you reach the 'Master and Replica Properties' configuration screen (above) you will see the properties related to the Master Server in the left-hand window and the properties of the Replica server in the right-hand window.
  2. 'Click' the '+' symbol to expand the RECOVERY properties for the Replica server.
  3. Set the REPLICATION DELAY to ON
  4. 'Click' the '+' symbol to expand the 'Replication Delay' properties
  5. Set the 'Delay Interval' to the time period which you want the replication files to be held before being applied to the data files on the Replica server.
  6. Finish configuring any other properties related to the Master and/or Replica server, then 'click' 'Next' to continue with the scenario creation process.

Configuring Replication Delay on an existing scenario

*Changes to scenario properties can only be performed when the scenario is not running.

  1. Stop the scenario if it is running.

  2. Select and highlight the Replica server in the left-hand window.
  3. Select the PROPERTIES tab at the bottom of the right-hand window.
  4. 'Click' the '+' symbol to expand the RECOVERY properties for the Replica server.
  5. Set the REPLICATION DELAY to ON
  6. 'Click' the '+' symbol to expand the 'Replication Delay' properties
  7. Set the 'Delay Interval' to the time period which you want the replication files to be held before being applied to the data files on the Replica server.
  8. Save the scenario changes by selecting the 'Save' icon in the toolbar

    1. You can also save by selecting SCENARIO -> SAVE in the menu bar

You will need to restart your scenario and synchronize when prompted.
