arcserve-KB : How to enable debug of Agent for Virtual Machine for Hyper-V Environment.

Description:

During the course of troubleshooting issues with regards to backup/restore we may have to configure the CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Virtual Machines to receive more debugging information

Solution:

You can do it through the Registry Editor by enabling the debug option and setting the corresponding parameter value.

To enable the debug option and set the parameter value :

Note: This is done on the Hyper-V host server.  

1.      Launch the  Registry Editor, navigate to the below registry path 

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\CA ARCServe Backup\ClientAgent\Parameters\

Value name: Debug

Data type:  REG_DWORD

Data:       1 

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\CA ARCServe Backup\UniversalClientAgent\Parameters\

Value name: Debug

Data type:  REG_DWORD

Data:       1 

The logs can be found under the agent install directory (C:\Program Files\CA\ARCserve Backup Client Agent for Windows\LOG)

Data to gather: ca_msvmpopulatedb.log, bsvss.log, Rxxxxxxxx.log (Restore related) , Bxxxxxxxx.log (Backup Related)
