arcserve-KB : Consideration on handling MAPI_E_NETWORK_ERROR - 80040115 with MS Exchange Document Level backups

Description:

We might come accross issues while performing the exchange document level backups and below are some reported failures in different
environment. in Exchange 2010 DAG or NON DAG setup.

Error/Warning mostly seen under the CA ARCserve Backup Activity Log :

' E8535 Failed to receive data from the agent. (Node=  @ IP Address) '
' AE9609   A necessary Exchange service is not running. Please start the related service on the Exchange server manually.'

From the trace logs (exsispa*.trc ) located under 'C:\Program Files\CA\CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Microsoft Exchange\DocumentLevel\LOG\' folder:

OpenEntry() failed on folder Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Err:4000000080040115
GetProps() failed to get Message ' Metadata'  Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Err:ffffffff80040115
GetAttachmentTable() failed. Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Err:ffffffff80040115
GetProps() failed on message Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Err:4000000080040115

There are numeric result codes that are returned by most Extended MAPI functions and in this case 80040115 is among them. As per the list of Extended MAPI numeric result codes

Solution:

Microsoft has confirmed it to be a problem with the MAPI CDO now and the same is corrected in the latest version. There are scenarios where we might see the problem occuring though the MAPI CDO is upgraded.
