This document helps to remove CA ARCserve Backup completely from the server using the following steps.


 This article contains information about modifying the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to create back up of the registry and ensure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem may occur. For more information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, please review the relevant Microsoft Knowledge Base articles on support.microsoft.com.


 Step 1:  Backup Existing Configuration

1. Job queue:C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\ARCserve Backup\00000001.qsd

Log folder : default location

  • 32 bit Server: C:\Program Files \CA\ARCserve Backup\LOG
  • 64 bit Server: C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\ARCserve Backup\LOG

2. Dr folders:

  • 32 bit Server: C:\Program Files \CA\ARCserve Backup\DR
  • 64 bit Server: C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\ARCserve Backup\DR

3. CA ARCserve Database:

     We need to run database protection job (Optional not required if SQL instance ARCSERVE_DB is not being uninstalled)

4. Catalog.db:

  • 32 bit Server: C:\Program Files \CA\ARCserve Backup\Catalog.db
  • 64 bit Server: C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\ARCserve Backup\Catalog.db

5. License file: Ca.olf

  • 32 bit Server:C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\CA_LIC\Ca.olf
  • 64 bit Server: C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SharedComponents\CA_LIC\Ca.olf

6. Device groups and file based devices:

  • Device groups: Make a note of the groups which already exist along with the slots assigned to each group under the below location.
    • Navigation: On the ARCserve manager screen go to Quick Start - administration -> Device -> Manage Device groups

  • File based Devices: If there are any file system devices or deduplication devices in use you are required to make them accessible on the new server.
 Step 2: Uninstall CA ARCserve from Control Panel
   Uninstall CA ARCserve from Control Panel

    1. Start-> Control Panel -> Programs(Uninstall)

    2. Highlight 'CA ARCserve Backup 'click uninstall'

    3. Select all the components and click 'Next' and remove it.

You can use the below Microsoft Utility to remove those traces

 Step 3:         Manually uninstalling CA ARCserve Backup Base component:
   If we are not able to remove / uninstall the ARCserve Backup Base Component using Add/remove programs or any other third party cleaning utility, we can remove ARCserve manually by following the steps mentioned below:

1. Stop the CA ARCserve services

  • 32 bit Server: C:\Program Files \CA\ARCserve Backup\cstop.bat
  • 64 bit Server: C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\ARCserve Backup\cstop.bat

2. Delete following keys

  • 32 bit Servers:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates
  • 64 bit Servers:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ComputerAssociates

3. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products
    Here go through each and every key and delete any key related to CA ARCserve Backup


4. Delete the CA directory

Important :- Do not delete CA directory directly if you have ARCserve D2D / ARCSERVE RHA / ARCserve Central Applications. If they exist please do exclude them and delete the rest of the subfolders for CA ARCserve Backup folders under CA.
  • 32 bit Servers:C:\Program Files\CA
  • 64 bit Servers:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\CA
    • C:\Program Files\CA

Note: Make sure that LogWatNT.exe and Lic98service.exe are killed before deleting these directories

5. Delete the registry keys for windows services.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CA ARCserve Communication Foundation

 Step 4: Uninstall SQL instance of ARCSERVE Database
If we need to remove even the CA ARCserve database click here for the complete procedure
 Step 5: Reboot The Server
Reboot the server and make sure that none of the CA ARCserve services are listed in windows services.
