arcserve-KB : How to increase performance in Compaq/UCX OpenVMS TCP/IP Services

Last Update: 2015-08-27 08:58:25 UTC

If performance is slow using the default stack configuration, set the send and receive quotas to the maximum. The following sections provide information to help you change these values.

DEC TCP/IP Services

If you are using the DEC TCP/IP Services V4.2 (with ECO), also known as UCX, enter the following command at the DCL
prompt to view the current settings:

 $ UCX SHOW PROTOCOL TCP /PARAM

The output you receive is similar to the following:

 TCP
 MTU size segment: disabled
 Delay ACK:  enabled
 Loopback:  disabled
 Window scale:  enabled
 Drop timer:  600
 Probe timer:  75
    Received Send
 Checksum:  enabled  enabled
 Push:   disabled disabled
 Quota:   4096  4096

To change the values, enter the following command at the command prompt:

 $ UCX SET PROTOCOL TCP /QUOTA=RECEIVE:65000 /QUOTA=SEND:65000

Compaq TCP/IP Services

If you are running, at minimum, Compaq TCP/IP Services version 5.0, enter the following command at the DCL prompt
to view the current settings:

 $ TCPIP SHOW PROTOCOL TCP /PARAM

The output you receive is similar to the following:

 TCP
 Delay ACK:  disabled
 Window scale:  enabled
 Drop count:  8
 Probe timer:  150
    Receive  Send
 Push:   disabled disabled
 Quota:   4096  4096

To change these values, enter the following command at the command prompt:

 $ TCPIP SET PROTOCOL TCP /QUOTA=RECEIVE:65000 /QUOTA=SEND:65000
