Title:  How can I tell how much compression is achieved from the Deduplication device?

Description:

Reporting compression ratio of a Deduplication device.

Solution:

The activity log will have a record of the amount of compression achieved. It will be listed under the sub job sections and not in the master job portion of the log.

The first time the job runs it is normal for there to be little or no compression, as this copy from a log shows:

Information MICDA03W2K8 05/05/2009 03:09:37 PM 44 Compression as percent = 0%, Compression as ratio= 1.000000
After that depending on the amount of duplicate data compression will be achieved:

Information MICDA03W2K8 05/07/2009 03:10:06 PM 55 20 Compression as percent = 12%, Compression as ratio= 1.134323
In addition Reports can be used to show the compression ratio.

The following reports will display the compression ratio for a Deduplication device:

Media Reports, Session and Session Detail Reports, Resource Usage History Reports, Media Utilization Report along with Deduplication Benefits Estimate Report and Deduplication Status Report within the ARCserve Dashboard.
