arcserve-KB : Virtual Standby job fails - Client received SOAP Fault from server: ModifyAttachedIdeHardDisk

Last Update: 2016-04-25 14:37:49 UTC

Error Message:

Activity.log

2014/01/10  00:44:04 -     Error: Job000001C2 - Virtual Standby job failed to execute HyperV operation 'Client received SOAP Fault from server: ModifyAttachedIdeHardDisk Please see the server log to find more detail regarding exact cause of the failure.'.

Description:

The environment here is R16.5 SP1 CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby which has the destination Hypervisor as Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, which is the 'Monitor' for the local Virtual Standby policy.

The Hypervisor uses an iSCSI target (NAS Storage) for the storage of Virtual Machine files.

The Virtual Standby job fails with the above error, at time during the start of the job or half way through.

Solution:

From the system events on the Monitor Node (in this case, the Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V), the following errors are logged during the same timestamp as the error.

Event ID 20: Source: BXOIS
'Connection to the target was lost. The initiator will attempt to retry the connection.'

The iSCSI connection from the Monitor to the target (NAS Storage) was corrected, and in this case the NIC driver firmware was upgraded, which resolved the system event errors and resulted in successful Virtual Standby jobs.

More Information:

The NAS Storage vendor may be contacted to identify the root cause of the system event error if troubleshooting from the MS -Hyper V Host (Monitor) did not help.
