arcserve-KB : Disable UAC in Guest VM for VMware VIX Operations.

Last Update: 2016-04-25 14:37:27 UTC

Description:

For all the backup operations to complete succesfully using ARCserve Host Based VM Backup, UAC (User Account Control) needs to be disabled in the Guest Virtual Machine:

https://arcserve.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202773215

We can disable the User Account Control in two ways.

Method 1:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

In Control Panel, click User Accounts

In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts.

In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off.

If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue.

Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click on Ok.

Click Restart Now to apply the change right away, or click Restart Later and close the User Accounts task window.

Method 2:

In some cases we may have to disable the UAC by modifying the Registry Keys. Below are the steps to disable UAC using Registry Editor.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Select EnableLUA (DWORD) and change the value to 0 and reboot the system.
