arcserve-KB : Recovering a Virtual Machine Using NBD Transport Mode to improve performance.

Last Update: 2016-04-27 11:44:30 UTC

Description:

Recovering a Virtual Machine Using NBD Transport Mode to improve performance.

If the ESX/ESXi host and the backup server are on a private network; it may be preferred to use unencrypted data transfer, which is faster and consumes lesser resource than NBDSSL transport mode.

This document explains about the steps to specify the transport mode during Recovery of a Virtual Machine.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to create backup of the registry and ensure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem may occur.

For more information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, please review the relevant Microsoft Knowledge Base articles on support.microsoft.com.

Solution:

  1. Log in to the CA ARCserve D2D backup proxy system for the virtual machine.
  2. Open the registry editor and locate the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CA\CA ARCserve D2D\AFRestoreDll

  3. Create the String 'EnforceTransportForRecovery' if it does not exist already and set the value as ''NBD'.
  4. Submit the recovery for the virtual machine.
