Cause of the Installation Failure:

CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager default installation also installs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition, which is the minimum database application that is required to support the CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager database.  The installation is failling as Microsoft SQL Server cannot be installed with the database path pointing to a location which has Compression Enabled.

Refer the below Microsoft KB article for more information:

Possible Solutions:

One of the following solutions can be performed to install ARCserve Central Protection Manager.

Solution 1 :

  • Disable Windows Compression in the Folder/Volume which is provided as the location of the data file for the CA ARCserve Central Applications default database and run the installation again.

Soltion 2:

  • Run the installation again by pointing the data file path to a location which does not have Windows Compression Enabled.

Solution 3:

  • Run the installation again by selecting the CA ARCserve Central Applications to use an existing installation of MS SQL Server instead of MS SQL Express.
