arcserve-KB : Failed to take a snapshot of a VMware Virtual Machine using arcserve Central Host-Based VM Backup.

Last Update: 2016-11-23 15:20:05 UTC

Description:- Failed to take a snapshot of a VMware Virtual Machine using CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup for a Machine which has Disks configured as Independent disks.

Solution:- This is a limitation from VMware as well, the documentation of VMware clearly says that we cannot take a snapshot of a Virtual Machine which is configured as Independent Disks as a result if a Snapshot command is triggered all the Writers in the Virtual Machine goes into Failed State. The result is the same even though you trigger a Backup from CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup or from Vsphere Client while taking a quiesced snapshot.

-Use CA ARCserve D2D to back up the VM. Install it inside the VM.

Refer to the below mentioned kb articles from VMware which clearly explains the same.

More Information:

Refer to the resolution section which clearly explains the steps, but before changing anything please consult the Administrator or VMware.
