arcserve-KB : Windows XP and Windows 2003 based systems fails to boot after BMR.

Description:

A Win2003 or WinXP machine may fail to boot after BMR with the below error messages:

1)   Windows could not start because of the following file is missing or corrupt:

   \system32\ntoskrnl.exe(or hal.dll etc).

   Please re-install a copy of the above file.

 2)   NTLDR is missing
   Press any key to restart

This usually happens when the BMR source machine has an OEM volume, and it's system volume and boot volume are not on the same volume.

CA ARCserve Central Applications Host Based VM Backups r16.0

CA ARCserve Central Applications Central Protection Manager r16.0

Solution:

1) Download the fix to a temporary directory from:
https://arcserve.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/search?utf8=✓&category=&query=RO53672&os=WINDOWS&actionID=3

2) Download CAZIPXP to the same directory in Step 1  from :
ftp://ftp.ca.com/CAproducts/Cazipxp.exe

3) Launch the command prompt and change the working directory used in Step 1.

4) Run the below command to unzip the fix:

CAZIPXP -u RO53672.CAZ

5) Burn the extracted D2DBMR.ISO to a CD/DVD .

6) Perform the BMR using the newly created BMR Disk.

Note:- Additionally, please enable debug at the start of the BMR and collect them at the end, which can be used for troubleshooting if the issue persists.
