Data encryption is the translation of data into a form that is unintelligible without a deciphering mechanism. CA ARCserve D2D data protection uses secure, AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption algorithms to achieve maximum security and privacy of your specified data.
The different types of Encryption Algorithm options available in CA ARCserve D2D are,

Windows built-in encryption libraries are used for data encryption and decryption:
- For Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008: CAPI (CryptoAPI) is used for data encryption.
- For Windows 7/2008 R2: CNG (Cryptography API Next Generation) is used for data encryption.
Data interoperability is supported both ways between CAPI and CNG, meaning that data that is encrypted on Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008 can be decrypted on Windows 7/2008 R2. This enables moving backups of any machine to a different machine and restore data from there.
How to select an encryption algorithm?
To select an encryption algorithm, go to Tasks->Settings->Backup Settings tab. When an encryption algorithm is selected, you must provide (and confirm) an encryption password and save the settings.
