Happy 2017 and Happy UDP 6.5! As you can see, we’re starting the year with a bang and a new version of UDP. It’s fun to see how much this great solution has progressed since we launched it in May of 2014. It is by far the most complete offering in the market with enterprise-class features that uniquely combine ease of use and simplicity.
As is customary in every launch, we review and update our competitive information. It’s par for the course. This time around, I was pleasantly surprised to see that even with recent updates from our competition, we’re still way ahead. There has been talk of “compressed” differentiation in the market. I feel that we are turning this statement on its head with our UDP portfolio. The thousands of customers joining the Arcserve family every month demonstrate it better than any blog post from a guy with marketing in his title!
In this latest version, we are continuing on our journey to deliver the best solution for mid-market and decentralized enterprise organizations. In this release, we have placed the focus on public cloud support with great capabilities for Amazon Web Services. In addition, we keep adding features to further extend our data protection scope and depth. We do this in a unified fashion, so unlike other vendors who sell a standalone solution for Office 365, and have to give it away for a year to trick you into a deal, our support is built into UDP, just like any other platform we support.
Disaster Recovery is really about business, not just about IT or backup. In this release, we’re introducing new ways to automate and test for DR non-disruptively. We’re also adding great RPO and RTO reports that will help our partners and customers highlight the actual level of protection achieved vs. objectives, answering the simple question any business person would ask: what is my exposure? What can I expect? What can we do to improve?

What’s new in UDP 6.5 – a quick look:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud as a Remote DR Site: our users can now replicate recovery points to an RPS in AWS Cloud, launch an EC2 instance directly from the recovery point, leverage virtual standby for Windows to AWS EC2, restore an EC2 instance (instant virtual machine for Linux) to AWS EC2, and copy full recovery points to AWS S3 at an optimized cost.
- Fortified Data Availability: Organizations eliminate the risk of data loss due to an outage or accidental deletion with enhanced Microsoft Exchange online and Microsoft Office 365 protection to a local backup of the Office 365 data or to any cloud that supports the UDP RPS, back up from UNC Paths (CIFS protection) from within the UDP console, leverage automatic protection of newly added VMware virtual machines, and enable faster protection of data on Nimble Storage and HPE 3PAR arrays with fully-integrated snapshot support.
- New and Expanded Reporting and Orchestration: IT teams can now view the health status of recovery points through automatic, non-disruptive testing for Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as measure and demonstrate RTOs and RPOs with detailed serve level agreement reports that display the total number of nodes with available recovery point
